   POLEBALL
 GET TO PLAY

You can get to play Poleball

by getting together 2 teams

or by starting a league with several teams.  You can use

a football field, a soccer field,

or a lacrosse field to play on.

Then all you need is a soccer ball and 2 goals to score on.

Part of the goals are 2 arcs

in front of them, one 15 yards

out and the other 25 yards

out from the center pole that

is part of each goal.  You don't need a 10 member team to play.  Just like pick-up baseball where you can play with 7 to 10 players on a team, you can play Poleball with 5 to 12 players on a team. However, one person alone can practice running and throwing and kicking at a pole.  Two people can, in addition,  practice catching and teamwork.

Three players can do all that and can play a game with another team if they have a pole they can use to score on.

But, if they don't have a pole to use for a goal, they can use a player as a substitute goal.  Then they would need four players.

To get started playing the game, you need to get some copies of the Rule Book to know the rules, and to train a few people to be referees for the games.

HOW TO build
  THE GOALS

There are many ways to build the goals to be used for a game of Poleball.  You can build one that is built to exact specification as set out in the RULE BOOK or you can build one that you can use for practice at home.  We will provide in this website some plans you can use to build a goal.

    wHAT IS
   POLEBALL

The game of Poleball and the Rules of play were created and developed over a period of about 12 years as a team-field type game to be an alternative to football and soccer.  The game is designed to reduce the injuries related to football and soccer, and yet keep the excitement of both sports.  The game will produce almost no concussions or career ending injuries.  But, as in track and any running and throwing sports, you will have pulled muscles (for instance, pulled calf muscle). an achilles tendon injury, or a throwing arm injury. The only protective equipment you need is a pair of shoes.

Poleball is also an alternative to lacrosse and field hockey.  The playing fields of both are easily adoptable to poleball.  The 16 yard arc in front of the field hockey goal is easily used as the 15 yard arc used for poleball.

You play the game with a #3 or #4 soccer ball and the players utilize the quick short passing of basketball, the long pinpoint passing of football, the foot control and passing of soccer, ...

 PRACTICE DRILLS TO TRY

Four or more players get around pole and throw to try to score from 10 feet away then move farther away until they are 15 or 20 yards away, and then kick toward the pole to score.

Throw or kick the ball at some other target that may be available as substitute.

Play catch with a soccer ball just as you play catch with a football, and play touch or flag football with a soccer ball.

Punt or kick and catch a soccer ball just as you would a football in practice.

Play HORSE using a soccer ball and a basketball hoop and backboard.  A "make" is when you throw or shoot the ball and it hits the hoop or goes down through the hoop or hits the target rectangle painted above the hoop.  If you kick the ball out of your hand, hitting the backboard is a "make".  Shoot from beyond the 3 point line and kick from beyond the foul line.
